When most people think of getting arrested in Dallas, they consider the usual offense, like a DUI, burglary, or any other standard illegal action.
However, the last decade has seen several people across the nation in need of a bail bond for some very strange reasons. We’ve covered the most absurd bail bond costs already, now let’s take a look at some of the most absurd reasons for getting arrested.
Santa Drives a Sleigh….Not a Wheelchair!
In 2019, a man from Arizona was arrested for attempting to steal a wheelchair from a woman on a local light rail system. The crime that occurred last December was halted by citizens who noted that the man was wearing festive reindeer slippers.
We can only hope that he was able to get home for the holidays with a bail bond, just in time to receive his well-deserved lump of coal.
A Bail Bond for a Bail Bond
Although 2020 was strange enough, 2019 experienced some interesting crimes at the end of that year. Last November, a man in Kansas was arrested for driving to their local bondsman to bail their sibling out of jail.
This arrest may sound like a long shot. However, the offender in question was grabbing a bail bond while driving a stolen SUV.
Sorry Pal, “Up” was Just a Movie
Canadian salesman, Daniel Boria made a wild attempt to promote his all natural cleaning product. Armed with a standard lawn chair and over $12,000 worth of balloons, Boria achieved his stunt by flying over the Calgary Stampede grounds.
Upon a rough landing, he was arrested for mischief causing danger to life and mischief to property under $5,000.
Fresh Gator, To Go!
Florida-man has always been a newsworthy hit, and this 2015 news story doesn’t disappoint. The Wendy’s Drive-Thru attendants of a Florida location got the surprise of their lives, when 24-year-old Joshua James threw a 3.5 foot long alligator through the drive-up window.
The alligator had been found on the side of the road, and James ejected the beast from his car upon receiving his drink. The alligator was safely released back into the wild.
James was eventually arrested for petty theft and illegal possession of an alligator.
What to Do if You’re Arrested for a Strange Crime?
Even if you’ve been arrested for something asinine, don’t waste your time waiting in a jail cell for your general hearing. Make the call and get a bail bond so that you can start to take the initial steps towards clearing (to the best of your legal ability) your name.
No, we don’t guarantee absolute freedom, but at least a bail bond gives offenders the chance to tie up any loose ends with employment, residency, and ensuring that family members are appropriately taken care of.
